Founded in 1934 by Island farmers and revived in 1974 by a ragtag group of hippies, yankees and retired English teachers. Free admission and parking.

Nothing is cheap to buy on Martha's Vineyard – but sometimes it is worth it. All the beauty to explore and enjoy is priceless!
BEACHES: There are so many on Martha’s Vineyard!
• Long Point- (south shore ocean and pond) Trustees of Reservation property. Due to high demand, and to help guests plan their visit, advance passes are required daily. Tickets will not be sold onsite. Tickets are released weekly on Wednesday mornings for dates for the following week (Saturday-Friday). Additional tickets will be added day-of if capacity allows. If you are a member of The Trustees, the fee is considerably less. Bikable. www.thetrustees.org
• Lambert’s Cove - West Tisbury pass available for walk ons, but you can not park there. We have walk on passes to lend you. Bikable. A nice walk from the parking lot to a beautiful protected beach with life-guards.
• Sepiessa Land Bank Property – Tisbury Great Pond beach and canoe, boat and kayak launch to a pond/ocean barrier beach. Nice trails and lovely short walk to the Point beach.
• Edgartown and Oak Bluffs Public beaches – State beach, Bend in the Road.
• Moshup Beach in Aquinnah (near the Aquinnah Cliffs aka the Gay Head Cliffs). Parking, for a fee, near the Aquinnah traffic circle and a walk along a boardwalk to the entrance to the beach.
• Chappaquiddick beaches – Wasque and Cape Pogue. With an over sand vehicle permit from The Trustees and a 4-wheel drive vehicle you can go over sand to some phenomenal beach locations-or use the "On Time" Ferry from Edgartown. There is often a line.
• Norton Beach – next to Katama South Beach is accessible via 4-wheel drive vehicle with an over-sand vehicle permit that can be purchased from The Trustees guardhouse at the entrance to the beach. Driving on sand is like driving on snow on steroids!
• Off season beaches to walk - but only for town residents in the summer- Lucy Vincent and Squibnocket in Chilmark and Philbin in Aquinnah are beautiful to explore and even sit and ponder the ocean from.

• Sepiessa Point Reservation – This West Tisbury Land Bank preserve has several walks alongside Tisbury Great Pond pond, through woods and a short, level walk to Sepiessa Point.
• Cedar Tree Neck - a lovely Sheriff's Meadow property in West Tisbury off of Indian Hill Road. Beautiful wooded walk down to a Vineyard Sound beach and then a neat walk around a bluff.
• Great Rock Bight Preserve - This Land Bank property can be found off of North Road in Chilmark. Follow road to the trail head and then walk down a fabulous wooded, decent to a magical beach with its iconic Great Rock.
• Menemsha Hills Reservation - This Trustees preserve has a number of beautiful trails that meander around hills that are border the Vineyard Sound. One of the trails leads down to the water to breath-taking views of the Sound. • Waskosims Rock – Chilmark. The Land Bank maintains this inland gem that meanders around beautiful fields and wooded trails that lead up to the actual Waskosims Rock that was left there by the receding glacier that shaped much of Martha's Vineyard topography.

• Chappaquiddick – Mytoi (Japanese Garden), beach. You will have to use "On Time" Ferry from Edgartown – there is often a line. Beaches, kayaking and walking trails on Chappy at Wasque and Cape Pogue. Beautiful moraine.
• Artisans' Festivals at Grange Hall, West Tisbury. Locally crafted and judged arts and crafts. Indoors and outdoors, rain or shine, 10am-2pm Sundays and Thursdays. Great food, free parking and admission, and a playground for kids. A Vineyard Summer tradition and the only weekly juried art show where the public can meet over 70 artisans and buy directly from them. Many demonstrations and a wide range of media.
• Chilmark Flea Market- Interesting finds. Wednesdays & Saturdays; June 25 - September 10. 9am- 2pm

Vineyard Haven, Edgartown and Oak Bluffs all have souvenir and up-scale fancier stores. These are some of the places with a Vineyard flavor:
• Vineyard Artisan Festivals- A Vineyard Summer tradition and the only weekly juried art show where you can meet over 70 artisans and buy directly from them. Many demonstrations and media, indoors and outdoors, rain or shine. Sundays: July 3 - September 25. Thursdays: July 7 - August 25. 10am-2pm each day at the Grange Hall in West Tisbury. Great food, free parking and admission, and a playground for kids.
• Alley's General Store – a real Vineyard experience. Almost everything is there. • Chilmark Pottery – hand crafted pottery well-made by Geoffrey in West Tisbury.
• Menemsha Blues - in Vineyard Haven and Menemsha. Good quality clothes and sundries.
• The Night Heron Gallery– artists’ cooperative in Vineyard Haven
• Off Main – cute shop in Vineyard Haven with a variety of things: home décor, books, baby clothes. Lovely owners provide tasteful selection at reasonable prices and free gift wrapping.
Transportation - Bringing a car on Island requires advance reservations through the Steamship authority, Woods Hole. It is expensive, although having your own transportation is sometimes the way to go!
• Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA) – public buses that cover the Island. There is a bus stop about a 1/2 mile from JADE House on West Tisbury Rd. Our guests have found that the drivers are helpful and they truly enjoyed using the VTA. See routes and schedule on: https://www.vineyardtransit.com
• Car Rentals – You can rent a car from Hertz, Avis and Budget at the Martha’s Airport
• Bicycles and Bicycle Rentals – Edgartown Bikes is an excellent bike shop with a large selection of bikes available to rent 508-627-9008
• Taxi Service – there are many taxi companies on the Vineyard, including Lyft and Uber. We like using Lighthouse taxi service (508) 645-6066.
